Golden, pillowy, and kissed with sweet honey butter. These soft, slightly sweet dinner buns are tender inside with a glossy golden top. Perfect with soups, spreads, or just torn apart and devoured warm.
Ingredients
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
- ¼ cup honey
- 1 large egg
- ¼ cup unsalted butter – melted
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter – melted, for brushing
- 1 tbsp honey – for brushing
Instructions
- Activate the yeast. In a large mixing bowl, whisk 2 ¼ tsp yeast into 1 cup warm milk with ¼ cup honey. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Mix the dough. Add 1 egg, ¼ cup melted butter, and 1 tsp salt to the yeast mixture. Stir to combine. Gradually add 3 ½ cups flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead and rise. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled.
- Shape the buns. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each into a smooth ball and place on a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Final rise. Cover the dish loosely and let the buns rise again for 30 minutes until puffy.
- Bake to golden. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake buns for 18–20 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
- Brush with honey butter. Stir together 2 tbsp melted butter and 1 tbsp honey. Brush it over the warm buns right out of the oven for that glossy, irresistible finish.
